The first Washroom Talk took place inside the gents of the Hackney Empire Theatre's Mary Lloyd Bar in Hackney, East London on the 24 th of March 2007 from 1:30 pm till 2:30 pm with four talkers namely Jonathan Lahaie (Canada), Tamara von Werthern (Germany), Mio Isshiki (Japan) and Timothy B. Layden (USA).

The initial question for the Talk was "What is art?"

The Video


The whole talk was being filmed with two cameras. A CCTV-camera was positioned above the talkers and a DV-camera inside one of the two cubicles. The footage of the DV-camera can be viewed on youtube or all embeded in one one page CLICK HERE. Every clip is about 10 minutes long.

Talkers

 

Jonathan Lahaie (Canada, Québec) - dancer
Jonathan studied contemporary dance and acting in Canada.
He performed in several production (TV commercials,
dance TV programmes, movies, theatre shows) and was a
member of The Mackinaw Dance Company and The Grasshoppa Dance Exchange.

Tamara von Werthern (Germany) - co-Artistic Director, Writer
After completing a Bachelors Degree in English and Drama at Queen Mary's University and a Masters Degree in Advanced Theatre Practice at the Central School of Speech and Drama, Tamara has worked as playwright for the stage and has trained in creative writing with The Royal Court Theatre. She has had a number of her plays performed as rehearsed readings and is currently working for Nick Hern Books as a publishing assistant whilst also acting as a company director for Para-Site Theatre Company.

Mio Isshiki (Japan) - student
Mio is a student (BA Costume, Technical Effect, Make-up for Performing Arts) at the London College of Fashion. She is the costume designer for The Monkey in the Box Comapany.

Timothy B. Layden, (USA) - fine artist
Timothy B. Layden is based in London. He is from Seattle, USA. He studied fine art at the University of the Americas, Puebla, Mexico and at the University of Barcelona, Spain where he was honored with a Phd in fine arts. Timothy has had numerous exhibitions, took part in conferences.
